Reviews
Too many young artists are taking up what they call caricaturing based entirely on the newest "how to" manuals published since the late 1990s. All of those are by authors whose backgrounds are almost entirely those of theme park/amusement park/mall concession owner-operators, managers, "trainers," etc. They see and treat caricatures as commodities to be produced and sold on a retail basis. While the examples shown in this book are selected primarily on the basis of their merit as ILLUSTRATIONS rather than as caricature drawings per se, and that is somewhat misleading for those who want to understand caricature in its most potent sense, there is at least a well researched and well written portion of the text exploring origins of caricature and meanings other than just what it is about in terms of illustration.
